We are Romi & Matthias - we share a passion for nature, working with honeybees, and our garden. Our beekeeping journey began on a small scale in 2018. Today, we have an average of 12-16 bee colonies in our family. We produce various types of honey and beeswax for natural cosmetics - the health of our bees and the quality of our products are our top priorities.
In addition to our beekeeping, we dedicate ourselves to promoting biodiversity on our approximately 5 hectares of land: we plant hedges, care for our still-young meadow orchard, look after our soil, and create hiding places and habitats for plants, fungi, and animals. A fruit and vegetable garden supplies us with fresh food throughout the year. In our free time, we enjoy hiking in the forests and mountains with our dog.
Romi
I am a biologist and have always loved being outdoors. During my many years working as a field ecologist, I was committed to nature conservation and researched the biodiversity of insects and arachnids 🪲🐝. Together with my parents, we moved to the countryside in 2019. Here, we grow our own fruits and vegetables and contribute to promoting biodiversity through regenerative management of our land 🌳.
Beyond beekeeping, my passions are soil regeneration, my herb garden, and planting trees. When I'm not working hard in the garden, I enjoy running, hiking in the mountains, climbing, or swimming. In short: I love being active in the fresh air ☀️🏔️. I express my creativity as a video producer, web developer, photographer, and illustrator for our online agency Lupinum 🎨🎥.
Matthias
I am a passionate tinkerer, a creative tech nerd, and I love to experiment with innovative ideas 👨💻⚙️. The garden has always been an important hobby for me. My favorite tasks include raising young plants, propagating cuttings, and pruning fruit trees 🌱🍎.
My background is in 3D planning and programming. My personal planning projects include our 5000m² fruit and vegetable garden, our 3-hectare meadow orchard, our plant propagation cabinet, and - the most comprehensive planning project to date - our self-developed and custom-built beehives 🔨. At our online agency Lupinum, I live out my enthusiasm for cool digital solutions as a web developer and designer 🧩🌐.
Vulkanrot
The name Vulkanrot comes from the volcano-red color of our beehives. From the very beginning, we have painted all our hives with a boiled linseed oil finish called "Vulkanrot" to protect the wood. We simply like the bright red towers that grow taller, especially in summer with the many honey supers - they are a real eye-catcher 😄.
